17 November

Spanish 1-2

Students will be presenting their Bolsa Cafe projects beginning 18 November.
They will not be able to use any notes or cards as we have been practicing the Yo soy... and A mi me gusta... for the past few weeks.  The props that are placed in their bags are the prompts for what they are going to say about themselves and the other person they are presenting.  Students should also be practicing at home, much repetition equals good presentation.

Spanish 5-6

Students will be presenting their "Si Fuera" books tomorrow.  They have been working on them for a week.  They are to tell what they would do or be if they were a particular color, animal, food, language, transportation, and the list reaches ten different things.  Their books should have visuals that show the ideas they are presenting using the conditional verb tense.

Next week we will put this knowledge to work as we create and practice our Bolsa Cafe projects.  Students are asked to bring props in a decorated brown bag that they will use to present themselves as well as someone or something else to the class.  The purpose of the bag and the props is to provide prompts in order to remember what they are going to say.  The Bolsa Cafe rubric shows what is expected and how they will be evaluated.  The projects will be written next week, practiced in class and at home and presented beginning November 18 and ending November 21.
Students will also be tested on Unidad 1 Leccion 2 on November 13.

Bienvenidos al ano nuevo de 2014 y 2015!

Welcome to the new school year of 2014-2015!

Spanish 1-2
We begin with a week of being bombarded with Spanish. Students often feel frustrated the first few minutes of hearing only Spanish but soon discover that there is much to be easily learned if they turn on the switch.

Students should bring to class on Thursday, 9/4/14, a 70 - 100 page cuaderno that will be used only for Spanish class.  They will be doing ejercicios on a daily basis, taking notes, posting vocabulary, working on projects and periodically leaving the cuaderno to be graded.  It is important that this notebook be used only for Spanish class.

Below is a link to the syllabus for Spanish 1-2

Spanish 1-2 Syllabus

Spanish 5-6
We begin, as with Spanish 1-2 with a week of using only Spanish in class.  In Spanish 5-6 however, this serves as a way of evaluating where students are with their ability to communicate in Spanish.  It is super fun and we learn too much!

4 de Marzo 2014

Spanish 3-4

We are still working on formal usted commands as we prepare for our Tapas Fiesta on thursday March 6.
Sr. Johnson will be preparing a tortilla de patatas and students will be bringing in the tapas they have prepared for the class to sample and enjoy.
Students should be using QUIA on a regular basis in order to practice the usted commands and the food vocabulary we have been studying.  Recent exams have shown that a good number of our students have a firm grasp of how to form and use the usted commands. There is still a portion of students that need to work on the process of using usted commands with object pronouns.
Looking forward to Tapas el jueves.

Spanish 1-2

Our first year students have completed their "Mi Escuela" projects in which they described their school, classes, activities and compared them to another school in a Spanish speaking country.  Well done!
Our new focus is on the use of the present progressive in discussing what they and others are doing.  We have created a monster list of useful verbs that students will be organizing thematically and studying in order to increase their ability to talk about themselves, what they do on a regular basis and what they are now doing.
Next week we dive into Unidad 3 in Avancemos as we begin studying food and meals and discussing what they like to eat in restaurants and prepare at home.  QUIA should be on every student's list foe homework time.  Check out the Que estan haciendo? activity I modeled after our period seven class!
